Stop Fed Ed? Here’s why and how!

WHY STOP FED ED?

IT IS COSTLY AND INEFFECTIVE

FED ED oversees about $285 billion taxpayer dollars, funds 9% of K-12 education and controls 100% of the program. Costs have risen over 400% since 1979 while scores have stayed close to flat. Also, every program that the Fed supports in each state has to have a duplicate person in the state Dept. of Ed to administer – excessive duplication of costs. With trillions of dollars wasted on federal education in the last 35 years there is nothing to show but stagnant test scores and declining student academic achievement.

 IT IS UNJUST AND UNETHICAL

First rule of education should be like that for medical profession: Do No Harm. Because of Common Core State Standards, we regularly see K-8 grade students in tears of frustration over unreasonable levels of homework and obtuse methods for learning basic math and other concepts. And perhaps most disturbingly, the standards have discouraged the love of learning in our most vulnerable children – clearly an injustice to these children’s true potential. K-3rd graders spend valuable time learning how to take tests on computers rather than learning to read and write.

IT IS TOO POLITICAL

Clinton: Goals 2000, Bush: No Child Left Behind, Obama: Race to the Top and Every Student Succeeds Act. With each new administration we get a new program, a new set of standardized tests, and new pressures to conform to the most recent education mandates.

IT IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL

“Powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people”  – Tenth Amendment

HOW TO STOP FED ED

Elimination of federal intervention can be achieved in five steps:

  1. Send all program management and funding to the states.
  2. Repeal all laws permitting federal intervention in education starting with ESSA.
  3. Privatize college loan programs through savings and loans institutions.
  4. Eliminate all offices and divisions in the US Dept of Education and related spending.
  5. Reduce federal tax collection and shift revenue control back to states.

  1. I hope everyone will sign this petition. It might pass and that would be a good thing. If it doesn’t pass, the Education Establishment will still feel the heat. The closer it comes to passing, the better. So it’s a simple decision–sign.
